A great first round win to Northern NSW Pride 1-0 over the 2003 Champions NSW Sapphires in Newcastle this afternoon, with Katie Gill's header in the 43rd minute enough to give last years's 9-0 losers the result this time over a depleted NSW side.

In mild conditions at Marconi Stadium today what was still the second string NSW Sapphires team showed their depth by defeating the Western Waves 3-0 who were playing their third game 'on the road'. The NSW side gave notice at the end of the 1st half that they were getting on top, and scored 2 in 3 minutes after the break.

In Sydney, in a first game for the Homebush Bay Olympic Athletics Centre, the young Adelaide Sensation side battled back into the game in the second half after looking to be overun by the NSW girls in the first half.
