Australia fails at this level

01/10/2009: Australia's latest generation failed to have an impact at this tournament despite playing some good football, going down 1-2 to the Czech Republic, 0-3 to Costa Rica, and 1-3 to Brasil finishing bottom of their group. Some observers suggest that this is the end result of lack of top level youth competition over the past few years, while others say it is the result of changing the approach to the game for the long term good. For fans though it is always dissapointing.
