Melbourne 0 - Sydney FC 3 Alex Brosque opening his ledger for the 2009-2010 season and when Mark Bridge added two strikes, Melbourne was all but done. 01/10/2009: Australia's latest generation failed to have an impact at this tournament despite playing some good football, going down 1-2 to the Czech Republic, 0-3 to Costa Rica, and 1-3 to Brasil finishing bottom of their group. Some observers suggest that this is the end result of lack of top level youth competition over the past few years, while others say it is the result of changing the approach to the game for the long term good. For fans though it is always dissapointing.
Women's Football: The FFA today launched season two of the 'Westfield W-League' which comprises teams branded with each of the seven Australian Hyundai A-League clubs, plus one club from Canberra (Canberra United). It will start this weekend, with the game from Brisbane broadcast at 3pm Saturday on ABC TV1.
