Westfield W-League

The new 2008/2009 New Women's National Football League

BOTN brings you feature game reports from our writers. The league will be launched on Monday 20 October. The first round of the Westfield W-League will be held on 25-26 October with the opening match between Perth Glory and Sydney FC at Members Equity Stadium to be televised live. The finals series will be contested by the top four teams at the end of the ten-round competition, with the Grand Final to be held on Saturday 17 January, 2009.

Westfield W-League Launched

On Monday 20 October 2008 the FFA officially launched the new 'Westfield W-League' which will comprise teams branded with each of the seven Australian Hyundai A-League clubs, plus one club from Canberra (Canberra United). It will start this weekend, with the game from Perth broadcast at 4pm Saturday on ABC TV1.

18 August 2008 - W-League is coming to NSW

One of the most exciting events to happen in Women's football is coming to NSW and you're invited to be a part of it. Football NSW, in conjunction with Sydney FC and the Central Coast Mariners FC, will be participating in the ground breaking inaugural season of the Westfield's W-League.

If you are a player and are interested in playing in this exciting league, you are invited to complete the Expression of Interest Form and return it to Hayley Todd, Female Participation Co-Coordinator, Football NSW by email on hayley@footballnsw.com.au or by fax on 02 9629 3770 by Wednesday 27th August - NSW Player EOI - SFC & CCMFC

Open trials will be held at Valentine Sports Park on Monday 1st September and Tuesday 2nd September 2008, commencing at 6.45pm.

28 July 2008 - Football Federation Australia and Westfield Group announced a landmark agreement in support of the fastest growing team sport for women in the country – women’s football. The Westfield's support will range from the 'Westfield Championship for Girls', the establishment of a new national women’s league known as the 'Westfield W-League', and the national women's team to be known as the 'Westfield Matildas'.

The Westfield W-League will comprise teams from each of the seven Australian Hyundai A-League clubs, plus one from Canberra. The Westfield W-League kicks off on Saturday October 25, 2008. Broadcast rights are still under discussion.
