Inaugural Premiers Queensland Roar FC have also claimed the 2009 Westfield W-League championship after defeating Canberra United FC 2-0 in front of a record women's domestic competition crowd of 4,554 fans at the W-League Grand Final held at Ballymore Stadium in Brisbane.

Queensland Roar took the game to their league nemisis, and they took the lead over Canberra in the 7th minute when Ellen Beaumont crossed from the left, and found Courtney Beutel at the far post - she headed onto the cross-bar. Lana Harch was on hand however to slam home the rebound through a sea of Canberra United bodies.

Queensland raced to a 2-0 lead in the 22nd minute when Tameka Butt's shot from just outside the box hit the far post and bounced into the goal despite Canberra 'keeper Lydia Williams best endeavours.

Canberra battled hard but never really looked like grabbing the two goals back once the Roar decided that the title stayed theirs.

The celebrations by the Roar were well eraned as they had been the best overall side through the short season.

It was good to see a healthy crowd on hand, which showed the benefit of coordination between HAL and WWL that had been lacking over much of the season. Many fans carried on to the HAL game a short time after.
