The 2009 A League Finals Series was launched on Monday afternoon at 'The
Wharf' theatre, home of the Sydney Theatre Company on Hickson Road, Sydney,
overlooking the harbour at Walsh Bay ...

Following the finals launch the Hyundai A-League Awards Dinner was held in the evening. The timing of this, before the fianls series may have been an economy drive, or it may have been a start toward seeing the Premiership as quite seperate to the finals series. Whatever the case, the awards went to:
- Rising Star Award - Scott Jamieson
- Zurich Referee of the Year - Matthew Breeze
- Goal of the Year - Shane Smeltz
- Reebok Golden Boot - Shane Smeltz
- Goalkeeper of the Year - Eugene Galekovic
- Coach of the Year - Aureilo Vidmar
- Import of the Year - Charlie Miller
- Fair Play Award - Queensland Roar FC
- Johhny Warren Medal - Shane Smeltz (winning just infront of Charlie Miller)
