Asian World Cup Qualifier
Iraq 1 - Australia 0
08/06/2008: Australia's Socceroos went down 1-0 to Iraq in Doha, leaving them level on points with Qatar who defeated China 1-0. A single master-stroke by Emad Mohammed from a free kick in the first half was enough to give Iraq the points they needed to stay in contention.

Australia's Women's national team, the Matildas, had lost to favourites North Korea 0-3 in the semi final. A hatrick to Ri Kum-Suk spelled the end of the youthful Matilda's hopes of bettering their World Cup placing. They now meet Japan again, in the third place playoff. Australia 1 - Iraq 0
01/06/2008: Australia's Socceroos struggled to stamp themselves on this game and Iraq always threatened, but in the end a 47th minute Harry Kewell strike was enough for the 3 points and the 48,678 fans at Suncorp.

Round 6
22/05/2008
Groups G & E:
Melbourne Victory 3 - Chonburi 1 Changchun 0 - Adelaide United 0 The Adelaide United FC 'Reds' managed another hard fought game tonight, this time ending in a 0-0 draw with Changchun Yattai in China - a draw enough to go through to the quarter finals in September. Melbourne Victory FC dominated the first half but was embarassed by a rare Kevin Muscat error to go one behind, then redeemed themselves for the last game with a 3-1 win to take second spot. In other news Australian has been confirmed in the 2009 & 2010 ACL, with 2 teams (first off Mariners and Jets).

China 0 - Australia 0
26/03/2008: The Australians battled the seemingly endless loss of players and the altitude to hold an oddly conservative China to a scoreless draw away in Kunming in the World Cup qualifier this evening. To get there the Socceroos survived a late scare when Mark Schwarzer brought down China's Quo Bo after a swift counter attack by the home side, three minutes from time.
