2006 NSW Continental Tyres Cup

The exciting Continental Tyres Cup is back this year, the draw having been announced at a Soccer NSW function at the Star City Casino on Monday 13 February 2006.

This is the 3rd year of this knock out Cup sponsored by Continental Tyres. Their generous sponsorship has made the total $58,000 in prize money, and $20,000 Cup winners prize, possible. There are less local association and lower league teams entered this year, possibly due to the unfortunate Wednesday night format, but nevertheless BOTN is sure a giant-killer or two lurks among their ranks! With 51 teams starting, the final 32 will get at least $500.

The Cup started with Round 1 on the evening of Wednesday 15 March 2006, and ends with the Final on Saturday 10 June 2006. Round 2 is on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 March, with Round 3 on Tuesday 11, Wednesday 12, and Wednesday 19 April, and Round 4 on Wednesday 26 April, 2006. The Quarter Finals started on 10 May.

Round 2: Round in Review : 29/03/06 [ By Chris Dunkerley ]

The next round of this Cup competition was played mostly on Wednesday 29th March 2006.

The two Illawarra Premier League teams, Dandaloo and Port Kembla, after tasting success in Round 1, both with comfortable victories, have drawn contrasting opposition in the next stage. Dandaloo are up against opposition from the Gladesville Hornsby Football Association in Eastwood St Andrews, with the winner of this game then playing Wollongong Wolves on Wednesday April 12th. Port Kembla will face stiff opposition from Sydney University from State League Division One. If Port Kembla can reproduce their recent local form when they accounted for Picton Rangers, victory is not beyond them. The winner of this game will then play the winner of Belmore Hercules vs Springwood SC, at home in Round 3.

Other attractive contests include the in form Mt Pritchard (Div 1) against Uni of NSW, experienced Manly Warringah Association side Brookvale against the Berries from Super League, the double-header at Fraser Park, and one of last season's dark horses Roosters FC against Kellyville Kolts.
