New National Competition: 8 Team Hyundai A-League Launched 1/11/04
The ASA released details of the new national football competition on Monday 1 November 2004 at Darling Harbour, Sydney. Speaking at the launch live on Fox Sports were the ASA Chairman, Mr. Frank Lowy, ASA CEO Mr John O’Neill, and Hyundai CEO B.G.Lee. The clubs were presented and as expected are: Adelaide United FC, Auckland's Football Kingz, Brisbane's Queensland Lions SC, Central Coast Mariners FC, Melbourne Victory SC, Newcastle United FC Jets, Perth Glory SC, and Sydney FC. State Football: Around the States - Part 8

In South Australia the Premier League Grand Final on Friday night saw Adelaide Olympic go down by 1 goal (S Parissos 38') to MetroStars 2 (C Artone 57 pen., 100') at Hindmarsh Stadium. Olympic had Parissos sent off late in the 1st half but it took Metrostars a golden goal to triumph.
 In NSW the Johnny Warren pre-season Cup for the 16 Premier League sides is at round 3. So far in Pool A: Rockdale City Suns 1 (N Bosevski 15' penalty) Bankstown City Lions 2 (S Petrovski 48', og goal 75'); St George Saints 0 Sydney Olympic 0. Pool B: Bonnyrigg White Eagles 5 (V Tomasevic 10', 32', A Ballaconde 14', M Baird 41', Y Ekinci 58) - Penrith Nepean United 1 (M Osman 70'); Marconi Stallions 0 Belconnen Blue Devils 1 (A Casey 60'). Pool C: Blacktown City Demons 4 (A Kwasnik 55' pen 80', T Faria 75' og 81') - Central Coast United 0; Sydney United 4 (P Cardozo x 2, M Jedinek, M Langdon) - Parramatta Eagles 0. Pool D: Wollongong Wolves 0 - Sydney Crescent Star 0; A.P.I.A. Leichhardt Tigers 1 (J Dieakes 70') - Manly Warringah Dolphins 1 (J Monie 31'). Through to the QF are Manly Warringah v St George, APIA Leichhardt v Bankstown, Bonnyrigg v Central Coast, Blue Devils v Blacktown. The Cup continues this week.
New National Competition: Announcement on Monday 1st November 30/10/04

The ASA will release details of the new national football competition on Monday 1 November 2004 at Darling Harbour, Sydney. International: Young Matildas Thrash Singapore
30/10/2004: The Australian Women's U19 squad, the Young Matildas had a 10-0 goal feast against the Singapore senior women's national team tonight at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore. Scorers: Leena Khamis 2' & 48', Selin Kuralay 9' & 11', Briony Holcombe 22', Collette McCallum 31' & 68', Kim Carroll 46', Catherine Cannuli 57', Alannah Reed 78'. The squad is on its way to Thailand for the FIFA U19 Women's World Championship from 10 - 27 November 2004 and play Italy U19 in a friendly on arrival. [ More on the squad .... ]

State Football: Around the States - Part 7

In South Australia the Premier League finals continue and the two teams in the Grand Final were confirmed when at Hindmarsh Stadium Adelaide Olympic 3 (Catanzaro 78', Farncombe 83', Parissos 86') defeated Raiders 2 (Trimboli 53', 62') in a late flurry of goals to win the right to play Metrostars on Friday night at Hindmarsh Stadium.
 In NSW the Johnny Warren pre-season Cup for the 16 Premier League sides is well underway and Cup favourites Sydney United have been eliminated in going down to Central Coast United 2-1 at the Sydney United Sports Centre on a very wet Sunday night. Results - Pool A: George Saints 1 (J Simpson 32') - Bankstown City Lions 1 (S Petrovski 17'); Sydney Olympic 2 - Rockdale Suns 1. Pool B: Marconi Stallions 2 (C Nwaogazi 14', M Thompson 67') - Penrith Nepean United 0, and Canberra Blue Devils 3 (S Hayes, S Degiobanello, R Cattanach) - Bonnyrigg White Eagles 3 (M Hawrysiuk, B Conde, M Baird). Pool C: Central Coast United 2 (P Haynes 24', own goal 82') - Sydney United 1(L Haliti 89'); Blacktown City Demons 1 (J Connolly 73') - Parramatta Eagles 1 (M Brown 11'). Pool D: Manly -Warringah Dolphins 3 (S Berry 7, J Funnell 66, 81) - Wollongong Wolves 0. Manly-Warringah & APIA Leichhardt join the Central Coast in qualifying for the quarter finals. The Cup continues this week.

After a tough first half Matilda striker Lisa Devanna came on in the 2nd half and that is what proved the difference as she provided the spark that was needed in front of a crowd of about 1,000 at MES. Stacey Woodfin scored after she got the ball and as the Canberra goalkeeper was running out she placed the ball carefully over her and continued running to put in an easy goal, sealing the Waves first ever win.
