In a controversial move Frank Lowy announced today that Rugby Union CEO John O'Neill has been appointed as CEO of ASAL and MD of the new league. A respected sports administrator, he is reported to be on a multi-million dollar contract for 3 years, option for a further 4. How he will translate to a rival code and how the football public will view it remains to be seen. In other news the State bodies are expected to reform their constitutions over the next 2 months following Soccer Canberra's move last month. Dr Joe Venglos is reviewing the technical development structure of our game, and was seen at the Power vs Marconi game on Wednesday.

Matildas For the Australia Cup

The 6th Australia Cup will be staged at Brisbane's QEII Stadium, with double-header match dates on 18, 21, and 24 February 2004 in a round-robin format. As a lead-up to the Olympic Qualifiers to be held in Ba, Fiji from 2-6 March the Matildas will compete this month against China, Korea DPR, and New Zealand.
The squad is: : Goalkeepers: Melissa BARBIERI, Cassandra KELL, Defenders: Dianne ALAGICH, Rhian DAVIES, Karla REUTER, Amy TAYLOR, Pam GRANT; Midfielders - Leah BLAYNEY, Bryony DUUS, Gill FOSTER, Lana HARCH, Kate McSHEA, Joanne PETERS, Tal KARP; Strikers - Lisa DE VANNA, Katie GILL, April MANN, Sarah WALSH.
